15 April 2011A gas explosion at a housing association block in Runcorn is believed to have been caused by the theft of copper piping from an empty flat.
The blast happened in an empty flat on the ground floor, one of four void properties in the 1970s building which is earmarked for demolition.
The theft of copper piping also caused an explosion in a home in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, where a 53-year-old woman, who was not injured, managed to escape from her private home.
